Faith Like Potatoes

What is Faith...it is believing in what you cannot see. We've just finished watching the movie Faith Like Potatoes (based on a true story) where a non-believing farmer's life was changed the day he asked Jesus to come in to his life. Through him and because of his Faith, God worked in mighty and miraculous ways. During one of his quiet times with God, he hears God tell him to put his trust in Him, not the weather, and plant potatoes. Everyone thinks this farmer is crazy because potatoes need water to grow, and they are in severe drought. He goes ahead anyway and plants his seeds. Not one rain drop the entire growing season. Many want to peak underground to see if the seeds have sprouted, but the farmer says no, Faith is believing what you cannot see. They won't look until harvest day. Harvest day comes, they stick the pitchfork in the ground and come up with lots of big potatoes!
Praise God, for He is faithful, He answers the prayers of those who call on Him in His name.
Right now, we at Reece's Rainbow have all come together to pray for some of our adopting families whose Faith could be easily shaken...we've received some sad news that an independent region in the country we are adopting from, has denied any further adoptions. There is one family there right now who are being told they cannot adopt the child they've traveled for...it is heartbreaking. And there is another family, the Wells family adopting Tori (who I mentioned in my very first post) who have become such an important family in my life... they are due to travel next week to the region that is denying future adoptions (until political and legal issues are worked out, which could take a very long time). We have all become prayer warriors for each other. We know God is sovereign over all things and He knew this would happen, and He has it all worked out...but it will take a lot of Faith to walk through the rest of these journies.
The picture at the top of this post is a sweet potato that we "sprouted" over the winter...it was one of three vegetables we submerged half way in water to see what happens. The other two vegetables sprouted almost immediately...this potato took two months!! My son Dominic had just about given up...but we talked about what God was doing on the inside of the potato that we couldn't see. By the time spring came, this potato had grown triple the amount of all the others, and it was by far the most beautiful! And it is still thriving in our garden producing the most beautiful green and purple leaves! Just when you feel like giving up, that's when God wants our Faith the most. Please lift our families up in prayer, and the government officials, that these country issues will be resolved this week.
